I first fell in love with Kelly Clarkson’s voice when she was a contestant on the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002—the same year I married the love of my life. And her music in 2003 really grew on me with her first album “Thankful,” the year my son was born. Kelly Clarkson’s music has been with me for all of the important moment’s in my adulthood.
Thanks to the Mom It Forward Influencer Network for sponsoring this conversation about Kelly Clarkson’s new album “Meaning of Life.” As always, all opinions are my own.
Kelly Clarkson’s latest album, “Meaning of Life,” is no different in how it resonates with me. Fifteen years later, I’m still a huge fan, owning all of her albums since her first, and being able to connect to her music just as I did all those years ago.
As we move through life, certain songs and topics with us. Kelly Clarkson’s lyrics are always so raw, and that resonates with me as a mom, wife, sister, daughter, and as a friend.
“Meaning Of Life” reminds me of my relationship with my husband and all the stops along the way before I found him. We’ve been together for 20 years, married for 15. He grounds me. My family—that is my meaning of life. Kelly Clarkson’s music makes me think of those relationships.
The “Meaning Of Life” is my favorite track on the album. The lyrics of the title track remind me of finding my husband all those years ago and how much we still love one another.
When you hold me, I finally see
When you say love, I know what it means
I was broke down so long in the dark
Until you showed me the light (baby)
‘Cause when you kiss me, I know who I am
And when you let me feel it I understand
When I’m lost I just look in your eyes
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
You show me the meaning of life
One of my other favorite tracks is “Whole Lotta Woman.” I love the way Kelly Clarkson acknowledges that not only can we as women be powerful loving machines, but that our physical size doesn’t matter. It’s empowering.
Ain’t no competition, babe
It’s just can you keep up with me?
I can’t do a thing about my wicked ways with gravity
Higher than the leaves, they fall from trees like D-O-double-Gs
I reside in Tennessee, but Texas still flows deep in meI’m a whole lotta woman
(From the way I walk and toss my hips)
I’m a whole lotta woman
(From the sound to my voice to the gloss on my lips)
I said I’m a whole lotta woman
(Anything I see I want, I get)
